How to Repair Your Hydrus Armalight Hard Board

Hey! This is Jason, one of the founders here at Hydrus. If you’ve got dings, dents, or cracks in your Armalight hard board, don’t worry—we’ve got you covered. Our boards are built to be tough, but like any high-performance gear, sometimes repairs are needed. Here's a straightforward guide to get you back on the water.

🔧 Quick Repair Summary

1. Dry the Foam Core (if needed)
If the board has a crack and water got inside, make sure the foam core is completely dry before sealing it up.
Important: Do not leave your board baking in direct sunlight to dry. EPS foam can begin to deform at around 185°F, which can happen surprisingly fast in a hot car or on a sunny patio.

2. Surface Prep for Repair
Before applying any resin or fiberglass, scuff up the Armalight coating where you plan to work. This helps ensure the new material adheres properly—mechanical adhesion is key. Use masking tape to define clean edges or protect areas you want to keep clear.

3. Use Epoxy Resin Only
Always use epoxy, not polyester resin. Epoxy is stronger and won’t damage the EPS foam core inside your board.

4. Apply Fiberglass and Resin Layers
Once the surface is prepped, apply 1–2 layers of fiberglass cloth and epoxy resin over the damaged area. You can use an opaque white pigment in the resin for a cleaner look, but it’s not required.

5. Depressions and Fillers
If there’s a dent or depression, sometimes it’s better to leave it “pushed in” and fill over it with resin and fiberglass—this can make it easier to level out the repair and add strength.
For small holes or dings, a thickened epoxy using Cabosil (or similar filler) works great.

6. Severe Core Damage?
In rare cases where the foam core is crushed or missing, you can refill the cavity using 2-part polyurethane pour foam, then sand it smooth once cured.
