Ruckus Travel 3-Piece Carbon SUP Paddle

The usual trade on a travel paddle: you give up stiffness at the joints to get something that fits in a bag. Most three-piece paddles earn that reputation honestly. Loose ferrules rattle, the shaft twists under load, and you feel the connection every time you load the catch.

Ruckus Travel is built to the tolerance where that stops happening. The connection points lock solid with zero movement. Load it hard and it reads like a one-piece in your hands.

The carbon is the same carbon. 30T pre-preg shaft and blade, double-concave blade in Medium 84 sq in or Large 90 sq in, the blade profile that beat 14 alternatives on the water. The shaft runs straight rather than tapered, which gives taller paddlers reach the tapered shaft cannot cover.

It breaks into three sections. The blade section measures 32 inches, the middle shaft 33 inches, and the handle section is whatever your total length leaves over. A 78 inch paddle finishes with a 13 inch handle section. Nothing in the kit is longer than 33 inches, which is what lets it ride inside a normal checked bag or tuck in alongside your inflatable.

Each one is cut to your length when you order. At checkout, leave a note with your total length (tip of blade to top of handle), or write 'Need help' and the crew will dial it in with you.

  • 30T pre-preg carbon shaft and blade. The same carbon and the same blades as the one-piece Ruckus.
  • 22 oz at a 78 inch cut, measured assembled. Shorter cuts weigh less, longer cuts weigh more.

Perfect For (And Not For)

Great For
  • Paddlers who fly to their water and would rather not check an oversized package
  • Anyone whose board lives in an inflatable bag with no room for an 80 inch paddle
  • Racers and tourers who want one-piece stiffness in a paddle that travels
  • Paddlers who already know their length, or who want help dialing it in
Not Right For You If
  • You want the lightest possible paddle and never travel with it  → Ruckus Flyweight (one-piece)
  • Multiple paddlers share one paddle and need to adjust length between them  → Tough Blade (adjustable)
  • You want a wood-handled or aluminum entry-level paddle

Quick Answers

Common Questions About This One.

Close. The connection points have zero movement, so through the catch and the power phase it reads nearly identical to a one-piece. The differences you will notice are weight and shaft shape: 22 oz at a 78 inch cut against 13.9 oz at a 76 inch cut for the one-piece, and a straight shaft instead of a tapered one. If you never travel with your paddle, the one-piece is the lighter tool. If your paddle goes where you go, this is the one.
Yes. 22 oz is measured at a 78 inch cut, assembled the way you will actually paddle it, grip and blade on. Weight scales with length, so a shorter cut comes in under 22 oz and a longer cut runs over. A paddle weight quoted without a cut length does not tell you much, which is why ours always carries one.
The longest section is 33 inches. The blade section is 32 inches, the middle shaft is 33 inches, and the handle section is your total length minus those two (a 78 inch paddle leaves a 13 inch handle section). Everything fits inside a standard inflatable board bag or a checked suitcase.
Yes. At 33 inches the longest section fits inside a standard checked bag, so the paddle travels as regular luggage rather than an oversized item. Airline size rules vary, so check your carrier's linear-dimension limit against the bag you are packing.
Standard guidance: the paddle should reach roughly 6 to 10 inches above your head when stood vertically. Beginners often size shorter for easier control, racers often size taller for reach. At checkout, leave a note with your desired total length (tip to handle top), or write 'Need help' and the crew will dial it in with you.
Different paddles for different paddlers. Tough Blade is 26 oz, adjustable from 65 to 87 inches, and built for shared household use and durability against rocks. Its weight does not change with length because it telescopes rather than getting cut. Ruckus Travel is 22 oz at a 78 inch cut, 30T pre-preg carbon, and built for performance paddlers who want a dedicated personal paddle that packs down. If one paddle gets shared and adjusted between people, Tough Blade. If the paddle is yours and it travels, Ruckus Travel.
