Built for How You Paddle.
The Hydrus AXIS 88 is the playboard. 8 foot 8 inch by 34.5 inch, Armalight Air construction, built for whitewater paddlers who want maximum maneuverability over straight-line tracking. Shorter than the AXIS 98 by a foot, snappier in the catch, lighter on the portage.
Where it sits in the lineup: this is the technical play-focused river board. AXIS 98 is the river-touring board (carries gear, more forgiving, better for mixed sections + flat-water transitions). AXIS 88 is for paddlers who already know what they want from a river session: tight feature reads, hole surfing, wave riding, surf-style play.
The 88's compact length lets the board lock into a standing wave and hold it, the kind of river surfing most inflatable boards are simply too long to do.
Honest fit: not a beginner board. The 8 foot 8 inch length rewards experience. If you're new to whitewater paddleboarding or you want one board that handles everything (river days plus lake approach), the AXIS 98 is the right call. If you're transitioning from AXIS 98 to a more technical play-focused board, AXIS 88 is built for that next step.

Their boards. Their water. Their words.
Photos from Hydrus owners across the lineup. Their boards. Their words. Their water.

I have had 4 Hydrus hard boards and the Axis 8'8" is my 1st inflatable from them. It feels unlike any other iSUP I have tried.

Angela and Jason made the whole process of buying my Hydrus Axis an absolute pleasure from first contact to my board arriving.

I finally have my Hydrus Axis 98! By far the best river paddle board. Indestructible frame and so effective in the rapids.

The Joyride is by far the best board I have ever owned. I feel completely at ease in the ocean waves or the shallow waters of the mangroves.

The Hydrus Paradise tracks and glides very well for an inflatable paddle board. It's easy to sprint between 5-6 mph on flat water.

This board is extremely stable and handles the water like no other. Payette lake is notorious for its waves and wind.

It's fast, and surprisingly stable once I got used to the narrower profile. The quality has been fantastic.

I message the company and received a phone call from Jason (the man himself) a few hours later.
